We are currently seeking a Full-Time Public Awareness and Training Facilitator. Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the position promotes prevention of domestic violence and human trafficking through provision of public education and awareness, and provides crisis intervention, support, and advocacy to individuals who have experienced abuse and trauma and their loved ones.

Develop and facilitate educational workshops, presentations, webinars and materials related to human trafficking awareness and prevention.

Research and implement best practices for program delivery for children, youth, and adults.
Build and maintain partnerships with other agencies and institutions for collaborative service delivery.

Waypoints Child & Youth Advocacy Centre, called “The Care Centre for Children & Youth” is a multi-functional centre for children and youth who have experienced sexual, physical, psychological abuse, severe maltreatment, exploitation, and/or neglect. The Child & Youth Advocacy Care Centre seeks to provide children and their families with a single point of contact to assist them from the initial disclosure of abuse, through investigation, court proceedings, and any ongoing support or therapeutic treatment that is necessary. The Care Centre provides a safe, nurturing, trauma-informed environment that welcomes children, youth, and their non-offending caregivers/families. We work in partnership with the Wood Buffalo RCMP, Northeast Alberta Children’s Services, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Victim’s Services Unit, Athabasca Tribal Council, and the Crown Prosecutor’s Office.

We are currently seeking a remarkable Child & Youth Advocacy Centre Facilitator who is a team player, shows initiative, is friendly, fun, highly organized, creative, likes to get things done and knows when to relax. Under the supervision of the Sexual Trauma Support Services Manager, the Care Centre Facilitator is responsible for the front-line daily operations of the child & youth advocacy centre, providing wrap around advocacy services to those that access the Care Centre.

Works closely with other community organizations to encourage, develop, and share leading practices and develop collaborative & respectful relationships.
Builds a strong relationship with partner organizations, ensuring effective and consistent communication.
Develop and continuously improve the Centre’s Child Support Services.
Build relationships of trust with others within the child protection community creating opportunities for partnerships and joint initiatives.
Represents the Centre at community functions, professional gatherings and public forums.
Assist in planning events and community functions.

Coordinate intake and case management at the Centre – facilitating linkage with appropriate internal/external partners including but not limited to RCMP & VSU referrals and ensures the efficient tracking and reporting of the number of children accessing services.
Ensure ongoing, individualized support is available to children and their families via supportive counselling, case management, information provisions, referrals and follow-up calls.
Responsible for Centre’s appearance (staging) to maintain a child friendly and family centered environment and ensuring that all patrons feel welcomed in the space.
Receives and sorts all incoming correspondence, screenings and other materials
Research and stay abreast of possible and current changes in the field of child advocacy centers, child abuse and victim services.
Act as a resource to the Sexual Trauma Support Services Manager for special projects
Attend frontline operations meetings and other partner team meetings as required.

This position will involve co-location between Waypoints Sexual Assault Program and the RMWB police-based Victims Services. Ultimately, the Sexual Violence Advocate is an employee of Waypoints and as such, is managed by the Waypoints Sexual Assault Program Manager. As the employer of record, Waypoints is responsible and legally liable for the actions of the Advocate.

Credentials: Registration with a governing body considered an asset (eg. Alberta College of Social Work).
Experience: Minimum of one year experience providing direct client support, case management and advocacy services to children, youth and families.

Direct Client Services:
Provide unbiased pre-reporting options including information about Victims Services, Waypoints Sexual Assault Program, Alberta Health Services, Children’s Services and the Criminal Justice system; including orientation to police investigation processes and needed community support referrals.
Provide leadership in the case-management for individuals who have experienced sexual violence and are considering reporting or are actively engaged within the Criminal Justice System; as well as to those who do not choose to engage with the Criminal Justice System (such as through a civil complaint, or issues related to sexual harassment in the workplace).
Provide consistent support and guidance from first point of service until post-trial, and facilitates referrals to long-term counselling as necessary and requested by client.
Complete needs assessment and work collaboratively with the client to establish a service plan.
Provide crisis supports and interventions.
Assist clients with emotional regulation as they prepare for trial, during trial and post-trial.
Act as an advocate for survivors navigating systems.
Wraparound services including case management , assessment, service advocacy and community resource navigation.

Performs small scale landscaping and maintains grounds. Applies fertilizers, seeding, and sodding lawns, and transplanting shrubs and plants, using manual and power-operated equipment. Mows lawns using a hand mower or power mower.

Performs building maintenance and janitorial work: carpet cleaning, parkade power washing, bathroom cleaning and toilet plunging.
General maintenance tasks: unit and facility painting, including drywall repairs, handyperson level electrical and plumbing work, and snow clearing.
