Waypoints envisions a community free of family, domestic and sexual violence and abuse. Our programs and services provide support, education, and information to the community, focusing on the prevention, intervention and healing from violence and abuse.

Unity House Emergency Shelter
Unity House Emergency Shelter offers a safe place for adult female identifying individuals with or without children that are fleeing interpersonal violence for up to 21 days.
Our Crisis Workers are available 24 hours a day to answer crisis calls on the Family Violence Crisis Line including options like accessing the shelter, as well as to provide emotional support, education and referrals to residents of the shelter.
Second Stage Women’s Shelter
Second Stage Shelter provides women and women with children that are leaving abusive relationships with subsidized apartments for up to 2 years. We provide additional security, ongoing programs and support around violence and abuse.
Second Stage Shelter is considered the next step in a continuum of services to support women and their children in living a life free of violence, moving from an abusive, unsafe environment into safe independent living.
Child & Youth Advocacy Centre
The Child and Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) is a Wood Buffalo Regional partnership. It serves children and youth, ages 3 years to 17 years, and their family members who have witnessed or experienced violence or abuse. Partners include the RCMP, Victim Services, Child and Family Services, Athabasca Tribal Council, and Waypoints.
This partnership allows us to provide wrap-around services with a trauma-informed approach. Referrals to the Child & Youth Advocacy Center are received from the RCMP and Child and Family Services.
Sexual Assault Support Services
Our Sexual Assault Supports & Services help individuals who have experienced a form of sexual trauma, such as: Childhood Sexual Abuse, Sexual Assault, or Sexual Harassment.
Our Crisis Workers are available 24 hours a day to answer crisis calls on the Sexual Trauma Support Line, as well as to provide support and referrals to callers.
Outreach
Services
Our Outreach Support Services include helping individuals who are experiencing or have experienced any form of domestic-family abuse, such as: child abuse (historical or current), Intimate Partner Violence (historical or current), and/or relationship conflicts (historical or current).
Our Outreach Counselling Services provide individuals with access to free counselling throughout the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
Our Outreach Public Awareness Services hosts a variety of presentations, events and workshops throughout the Wood Buffalo region related to domestic-family violence and relationship conflicts.
The Compass Affordable Housing
The Compass is Waypoints' affordable housing initiative in the Wood Buffalo Region, dedicated to providing community members with safe and accessible apartment housing options. The Compass serves individuals and families seeking affordable housing options in a supportive environment.
The Compass offers a range of units designed to meet various needs, including bachelor, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom units.
This program represents Waypoints' commitment to supporting residents in establishing stable housing that fosters both independence and community connection.
Opportunities
For Change
Opportunities for Change offers a 15-session psycho-educational group for adults that have used violence in their relationships, as part of the Provincial Family Violence Treatment Program. Both male and female groups are offered.
Through supportive discussions, participants tackle challenges, gain insights, and develop skills for healthier relationships. Emphasis is placed on fostering healthy communication, identifying growth areas, and enhancing emotional regulation, and empowering individuals for positive change.
